Residency Division

The Family Medicine Residency program at East Carolina University truly provides the best of both worlds. The program’s sponsoring institution, ECU Health Medical Center, is a 900-bed Level 1 trauma center that serves twenty-nine counties in eastern North Carolina and offers the vast educational resources only available at an academic medical center. Far from an inner-city locale, Greenville is a thriving and welcoming university community that offers abundant outdoor and cultural activities.

The Department’s nationally recognized faculty have a wide range of backgrounds, with extensive experience in academic, private, and military practice. Faculty in pharmacy, nutrition, behavioral medicine, and research integrate service with resident education, further expanding the breadth of training. Committed to medical education and well versed in evidence-based medicine, the Department’s faculty provide a solid foundation for an exceptional residency experience.

The program accepts twelve residents per year and does not offer positions outside the Match. Our residents are a diverse group of high-energy physicians who share a passion for comprehensive patient care and for their own education. Resident selection is not formula-based; “fit” into our carefully constructed team is as important as academic excellence.

Additional information about our program, including application criteria, can be found on the Residency page.
