Who We Are
- dedicated to providing information and resources to students interested in:
- grasping the full scope of what Family Physicians can do
- any students interested in exploring primary care medicine
- a patient-centered approach to health and wellness
- the health of the whole patient and the relationships we can form with patients and their families over time
- promoting and recognizing the importance of primary care in our nation’s healthcare
- nationally recognized repeatedly for our innovations in helping students to learn about Family Medicine
What We Do
- Monthly lunches with expert speakers
- some topics include, but are not limited to: career options, lifestyles, summer programs, leadership development, the Match, residency, clinical resources, and technology
- Hands-on procedure workshops
- some popular topics include: splinting and casting, suturing, toenail removal, basic obstetrics, circumcision, Wilderness Medicine, and venipuncture
- Annual forum for fourth-year students to pose Residency Match questions
- discussion topics include: interview tips, letters of recommendation, personal statements, “community vs university” programs, “opposed vs unopposed” programs, number of programs, grades/board score interpretation, and many more!
- Attend state-level and national-level conferences
- scholarships are available for interested students
- FMIG members have been elected into leadership positions at both levels
- Conduct student-led volunteer clinics
- Greenville Community Shelter clinic – since 1989!
- Grimesland Community Health clinic
